Football season is here...

My favorite time of year has arrived - football season! There's nothing quite like enjoying a great football game on a cool, crisp fall afternoon or evening. I'm back coaching with St. Susanna this year - I'm one of the offensive coaches. We had a rough start on Sunday, losing 40-6 to IHM, but things can't get any worse than that, Can they? Let's hope not, otherwise it's going to be a long season!

Ohio State kicks off on Saturday. With 20 returning starters returning from a team that played for the national championship last year, expectations are obviously high. Should the Buckeyes go out and beat USC in LA next month, they may very well be on their way to a 3rd trip to the championship game in as many years. Given the results of the first two championship games maybe that's not a good thing to the rest of the country but I'd rather make it to the championship game and lose than watch it on television. Speaking of going to a game as opposed to watching on TV, I'd like to go up to the Buckeyes opener on Saturday but currently don't have any tickets. If you know of where I might be able to pick up a couple, let me know!

I'm not expecting much out of the Bengals this season. They've looked horrible in pre-season and they just don't seem to be improving at all. They have several key players injured and should they start the season 0-2 they may very well continue to lose the rest of the year. It's an embarrassment. You would think that Mike Brown would learn from his many past mistakes but when you resign a thug like Chris Henry, just months after you cut him for being a total knucklehead, it's apparent that Mikey boy has no idea what he's doing.

We have several pretty big milestones coming up over the next couple months - Abbey turns 16 in September and will probably have her license by the end of October. My 50th birthday is in October and Judd will turn 20 in early November. (Aaron turned 18 in June!) Speaking of Aaron, we need to get him focused on heading to college next year. Hard to believe how swiftly time flies by.

Nothing much else to report. Friday, August 29 marks a very sad anniversary - it will be 5 years since my mom died. Hard to believe she's been gone that long but then I think about everything we've been through since then and it seems like a lifetime. At any rate, not a day goes by where I don't think about her and miss her not being here. For those of you who still can, make sure you give your mom a big hug every chance you get...Wishing every one a great Labor Day Weekend and a wonderfall fall/football season.
