It's Now Been 5 Years...

Hello all! Today is the 5 year anniversary of my diagnosis for follicular lymphoma; hard to believe it has been that long but then again, 5 years is really not that long of a time. I do know I feel blessed to be here and I'm grateful that I've been able to experience all the wonderful moments I have since receiving that terrible news 5 years ago. I don't know where I'd be if it weren't for many of you who continue to read this blog. I thank you all for your continued prayers and support.

On Wednesday I'll have my second treatment of Bendamustine. Hopefully I'll tolerate it as well as I did the first go round. I continue to feel pretty good, all things considered, and can only hope this drug is doing the trick. I'm not sure when we'll do scans again but I'd guess it will be after my third treatment in November. My appointment is at noon so if you think about it, a little prayer would on Wednesday would be most appreciated! I'll be sure to post after the treatment to let you all know how things are going.

Abbey plays her final home game in field hockey tomorrow night. It will be a sad occasion, we've been watching our kids play sports for around 16 years and realizing we are down to our final few games is another reminder that our kids are growing up and will soon all be off at school or entering the work force. Abbs has had a great senior season and hopefully her team will be able to extend the season a few extra games in the playoffs, I'm going to miss going to watch our kids play and compete.

My 6th grade football team finally won a game! We've been close several times but haven't been able to get into the win column. Yesterday we finally broke through at IHM which is somewhat ironic because back when the boys played football that was about the only team we couldn't beat so I guess it was a bit of revenge for me for all those times I drove all the way home from Anderson Township with a loss!!!

This weekend we'll have the entire family together as our niece, Dana, is getting married. It should be a lot of fun and it will be great having the boys home for a few days. They'll also be home the following week and all three of the kids will be skydiving!!! I'm not looking forward to watching our children jump out of an airplane but they're all excited about it so who cares if dad is petrified to see this all play out!!

Here are the next 10 songs in my countdown of my favorite songs with female vocalists...this will bring us to the top ten...

20. Middle of the Road/The Pretenders - First of two songs by Chryssie Hyndes and The Pretenders. Realizing that I will be 52 in a few weeks and the song talks about the 'middle of the road' being 33 years old, the more I hear this song, the older I feel.

19. How Do I Live/Leann Rimes - Always been impressed with Leann's voice, even when she was belting out 'Blue' at the age of 13. She's been in the spotlight over half her life and she hasn't even hit 30 yet!

18. Ain't No Mountain High Enough/The Supremes - One of the great Motown hits.

17. And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going/Jennifer Holiday - This song won Jennifer Hudson an Academy Award a few years ago but it was Jennifer Holiday who first immortalized it in the Broadway version of 'Dreamgirls' back in the early 80's. A true Diva's song.

16. Anticipation/Carly Simon - If you ignore that this song ultimately became a jingle for Heinz Ketchup, it has always been my favorite tune by Carly Simon.

15. Mercy/Duffy - I couldn't tell you another song performed by Duffy but she really nailed it with this tune from 2008.

14. No More I Love Yous/Annie Lennox - I remember the first time I heard this song, Lennox performed it on Saturday Night Live - it was a very bizarre performance and the song is somewhat odd but yet, extremely mesmerizing. A tremendous showcase for Lennox's unique and wonderful voice.

13. Brass in Pocket/The Pretenders - The Pretenders breakout song - very commercial and much different than a lot of the other music they produced.

12. Me And Bobby McGee/Janis Joplin - Joplin put her heart and soul into every song she sang and this was probably her most commercially successful record. Fun song which packs a lot of power at the end.

11. Hero/Mariah Carey - Can't listen to this song without thinking about my mom. Hard to believe she's been gone over 7 years - I think about her every day.

That's it for now - see the top ten in a few days. Thanks for checking in!!
