MOELLER VOLLEYBALL WINS STATE!!!!!

The title says it all! In undeniably the best volleyball match I've ever witnessed, Moeller beat their GCL rival, Elder, in heartstopping fashion; 22-25, 25-18, 27-29, 26-24, 15-12, to claim the 2007 Ohio State Championship. The win caps a perfect 29-0 season, the first undefeated season in Moeller volleyball history! It was Moeller's 3rd state title in 4 years and 5th overall.

We couldn't have been more proud of Judd. He was one of the team's emotional leaders all season long and truly played his best volleyball ever over the past 4 weeks. His team had 12 senior players and they set a goal back when they were freshman to win a state championship. They lost in the state championship match last year but never lost another match, winning 29 straight. In addition to the state championship; they also won the St. Charles Classic, the Centerville Elite tournament and the Buckeye Classic earlier this month.

In addition to playing at Moeller, Judd also played with many of the boys in club volleyball. He was team mates with several of the boys from Elder during the club season. Knowing the boys and their families, I really felt bad for the Elder kids - they played their hearts out.

So Judd ended his high school career on as high a note as possible. This week, the focus swings to Abbey as she graduates from the 8th grade at St. Susanna. They had a parents breakfast this morning which was very nice - the kids and parents did a great job. I don't know what we're going to do once this whirlwind of activity is over - maybe get reaquainted with Aaron who has been somewhat neglected the past couple weeks. Fortunately, he seems to be content when no one is bothering him so he's probably enjoyed not being in the spotlight.

Hope all is well with everyone. Wishing you all a great summer!!!

A Big Week for Judd....

Hard to believe but on Thursday, May 24, Judd is graduating from Moeller High School. His final day of school was last Friday and the bacalaurette mass ( and I'm sure I spelled that wrong) was last night. It was a very nice ceremony but it would have been nicer had I been able to sit down. Trying to cram 1500 people into a 1000 seat facility may not be the best way to hold that function but what do I know; I'm just a parent who spent close to $40,000 to send my son to high school, why should I expect to sit down at his bacalaurette mass?

This week will also be big for another reason; on Saturday Judd and his Moeller team mates will be playing in the state volleyball tournament at Cincinnati State...they are three wins away from the state championship! They have had a wonderful season; they're currently 25-0 and have only lost 3 games all year long. Last year the boys lost in the state championship game and they haven't lost since. This weekend should be very exciting and hopefully we'll be celebrating a state championship Sunday night.

Abbey is also graduating later this month. She'll graduate from the 8th grade at St. Susanna on May 31. After 12 years, we'll no longer have a child at St. Susanna. We have many fond memories of St. Susanna but Abbey is ready to move on so we are, too.

As for Aaron, he's had a pretty good year. He's been first honors all four quarters and played on the JV lacrosse team this spring. He'll need to bulk up to play varsity next year so if you know of any diets that can help but some meat on that boys' bones, let us know.

Hope all is well with all of you. We'll post the state results next Monday!!

596th out of 622....

Yesterday was the Flying Pig Marathon and our Churchladies team made a fine showing, coming in 596th place out of a possible 622 teams. How impressive is that? Actually, we had a great time and I'd like to thank everyone who participated in this wonderful event. Our team was able to raise over $11,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I think we're all motivated to go out and do it again next year.

This Friday (May 11) is the finals for the LLS Man and Woman of the Year campaign. Jimmy Judd (Julie's brother) is one of the Man of the Year candidates and he's in the final push of his campaign. We also have a good friend, Dom Pitocco, who is also a candidate. Our goal is to raise over $140,000 through this event so I'm looking forward to seeing the results on Friday.

Judd's volleyball team remains undefeated at 22-0. This past weekend the were the champs of the Buckeye Classic tournament, which featured 48 teams from 4 states and Canada. There are only two regular season matches left before the state tournament. Two years ago their JV team went undefeated; it would be awesome to see them go undefeated for their senior year, as well.

I hope everyone is out enjoying this beautiful weather. I've been having a little probelm with my back and I think the run yesterday aggravated it a bit. I may need to go on the injured list for a week to give myself a little time to recuperate.

I'd like to ask everyone to say a prayer for our pastor at St. Susanna, Fr. Dan Shuh. He was recently diagnosed with ALS and I'm sure he would appreciate everyone's support at this very difficult time.

Thanks again to everyone who participated in our fundraising campaign for the LLS - you are all awesome!

Peace and Blessings....

Vince
